Baldrich’s Tomb Game Review

The old adventurer sitting at the inn table looks tired, worn, and beaten. He tries to smile, fails, and instead just looks at his mug of warm ale. He says there’s a treasure to be found that he will pay you to find. He’d get it himself, but he’s in no shape to do so and not as young as he once was. He’ll pay you up front and you are welcome to keep all the treasure you find along the way. When you ask him what the catch is, he mumbles something about a crumbling tomb, monsters, and a rampaging ghost. You shrug. A jobs a job and you could use the gold. Time to go make a living the hard way. Continue reading

Our Family’s Descent (Part 1): It Begins

Our goal is to have an epic adventure using one quest per week. This means it will take us roughly around 20 weeks to complete the campaign, “The Shadow Rune”. During this time, I’m going to chronicle our family’s journey as they travel through the kingdom of Arhynn. After a few gaming sessions, I’ll write a full review of the game to post on this site. Trophy Buck Game Review

Quietly, you move through the treeline, looking for any signs of movement on the horizon. Pausing for a moment, you carefully examine a set of tracks. They look to be fresh, big, and heavy. There’s a buck nearby. As your heart rate increases, you do what you can to settle your nerves. If the majestic animal is still close, you’ll need to position yourself and wait. Or should you press on and keep looking, in hopes of sneaking up on the deer? Make a choice and risk it all or play it safe. Just keep in mind that no legendary hunting story ever began with, “So I called it a day and went back home.” Continue reading

The mighty oceans are deep and vast, and can award a skipper of a shrimping boat endless bounty if they know where to look and are quick to react. The shrimp are there for the taking, but keep a steady eye on the horizon! Other shrimping boats sail these waters and mean to catch the same shrimp you are counting on. Looks like a simple and relaxing fishing trip just got serious. Roll up your sleeves and lock your eyes on the prize. There’s shrimp to win! Continue reading

Say Anything Game Review

Everyone has an opinon. Heck, Father Geek wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for opinions (which, in our opinion, would be very sad). But if everyone has an opinion, is one better than another? Certainly an educated and thoughtful opinion would be of more value than a person’s opinion that is based purely on speculation and personal bias, right? Well, not always, and in this game, almost never. Continue reading

The Scout Motto for Gamers

A little over a year ago, when I had my own web site, I wrote about the games I always have with me in the car. I took an old Backgammon set we had and filled the empty space with 7 games available to play at a moments notice. As times goes on, the contents of my little gamer’s travel kit continues to change. I do my best to live by the Scout Motto which has made playing games a possibility anytime, anywhere. Continue reading

Chef Cuckoo! Game Review

It’s a fact that anyone can learn how to cook. Given enough time, patience, and training, an individual can go from ruining a bowl of cereal to creating a 7 course meal that would make Wolfgang Puck sit up and take notice. But there is an elite group who are truly talented and can take anything you put in front of them to create edible miracles. Are you up to the challenge? Continue reading

Fallen City of Karez Game Review (prepublished version)

It once was the greatest city known to man. It was said that the walls of Karez were made of gold and all those who dwelled within them were blessed with prosperity and health. But those are just stories and the city is now nothing more than ruins. By royal decree, the leaders of the greatest Guilds have been summoned and given one command: rebuild Karez. Such an opportunity promises great wealth and personal gain of power, but it’s a balancing act and a deceitful one at that. Outwardly, the Guilds must appear to be working for the greater good of the Kingdom and their King, but secretly they work to further their own goals. Only by working together can the Guilds rebuild the fallen city of Karez, but they must fight each other to rule it. Continue reading
