Cyrus

Cyrus

Editor in Chief, Owner/Operator, Board Game Fanatic, Father of Three, and Nice Guy, Cyrus has always enjoyed board, card, miniature, role playing, and video games, but didn't get back into the hobby seriously until early 2000. Once he did, however, he was hooked. He now plays board games with anyone and everyone he can, but enjoys playing with his children the most. Video games continue to be of real interest, but not as much as dice and little miniatures. As he carefully navigates the ins and outs of parenting, he does his very best to bestow what wisdom he has and help nurture his children's young minds. It is his hope and ambition to raise three strong, honorable men who will one day go on to do great things and buy their Mom and Dad a lobster dinner. Cyrus goes by the handle fathergeek on Board Game Geek.

More Family Movie Night Goodness

Life does not always give you the time you would like to play and connect with your kids. That's why any free moment you might have with your little geeks is important. How you spend that time is best left to you and your little geeks. If watching movies is your thing, you might want to consider the latest Family Movie Night release for your next evening in with the fam.

This Pleases the Trekkie in Me

I loved the original Star Trek like a hog loves mud and didn't think I could love anything more until Star Trek: The Next Generation was released. Like the Grinch, my heart grew three sizes that day. We do not speak of Star Trek Voyager or Deep Space Nine in our household. They are dead to us.

Lots of Free Card Games!

We have already shared with you a compiled list of free RPGs, lovingly collected and organized by a true fan and geek. Such dedication separates the "occasional player" from the true "enthusiast". But if RPGs are not your thing, perhaps card games are. Just so happens that another true geek enthusiast has compiled a list of free card games created by some very inventive people.

The Geeky War On Germs: GEEKSOAP Review

At our household, we wage epic battles against germs, bacteria, and all the other nastiness that comes from living our lives to the fullest. As a father, I do all I can to protect, educate, and love my children. As a geek, I try to find better and more entertaining ways to do all three. When you find that special something that allows you to do so, you run with it and never look back!

LEGO Geekiness for George R. R. Martin is Win

With all the excitement, buzz, product support, and fandom currently being generated by George R. R. Martin's books and absolutely fantastic characters, it should come as no surprise that some very creative fellow geeks are showing their appreciation in their own special way.

Sharing is Hard: Wrapsol Review

Sharing is hard and a difficult lesson to teach little geeks. But what happens when big geeks forget the very lessons they are trying to teach? Am I just a big kid or do I have legit beef and my feelings are justifiable? According to my wife, "kinda". Clearly, there is an issue to solve here, including my own. Luckily, for every issue there is a solution, and in regards to my iPhone, I found one.

Never Too Early to Share or to Start

Unless you have not been paying attention, you know very well by now that Father Geek is all about sharing our geeky passions with our children. We have also said, time and time again, that it is never too early to start doing so. Case in point, my recent visit to see my family in Washington.

White Elephant Gift Exchange Now A Card Game? Oh, Yes!

If you have not had the opportunity to participate in a White Elephant Gift Exchange, many would consider you lucky. I have participated in many a gift exchange thanks to working for a large international corporation with employees from many different ethnic and religious backgrounds. Since the White Elephant Gift Exchange is a silly little game at its core, it stands to reason that you could improve it, which someone did.

Lots of Free RPGs!

Taken as a whole, it is simply incredible how many creative people are bent over their keyboards and devising ways to chuck dice and get treasure using pen and paper. If we could get even half of them to focus on world peace, I doubt we'd have wars in 20 years. And while that might sound like an unobtainable goal, I think it is well in bounds to suggest that the games listed will allow me to taste the thrill of the dragon hunt once more!

Father Geek Goes Hollywood!

Father Geek was invited to attend a Daddy Blogger "behind the scenes" tour of Walmart's and P&G's 8th and newest Family Movie Night film! I was given access to the movie set location, the crew, and and the actors. The experience was incredible and I am very happy to be able to share it with you! Father Geek goes Hollywood! But don't worry, we won't let it go to our heads...much.

Father Geek Boutique Gear (Now With Models!)

The Father Geek Boutique has some great stuff for you to purchase if you are looking for some new geek gear to strut around in. Father Geek now has models! True some of them have beards, but Father Geek isn't picky.
