Cyrus

Editor in Chief, Owner/Operator, Board Game Fanatic, Father of Three, and Nice Guy, Cyrus has always enjoyed board, card, miniature, role playing, and video games, but didn't get back into the hobby seriously until early 2000. Once he did, however, he was hooked. He now plays board games with anyone and everyone he can, but enjoys playing with his children the most. Video games continue to be of real interest, but not as much as dice and little miniatures. As he carefully navigates the ins and outs of parenting, he does his very best to bestow what wisdom he has and help nurture his children's young minds. It is his hope and ambition to raise three strong, honorable men who will one day go on to do great things and buy their Mom and Dad a lobster dinner. Cyrus goes by the handle fathergeek on Board Game Geek.

The Quotable Father Geek

If you write a lot, you know that your words can come back to haunt you or hype you. The truth of it is, once you write something and post it to the InterWeb, many, many people get to read it. You can only hope it isn't taken out of context or rouses nations to go to war.

Adventure Coach PSA

Seldom do I come across something on YouTube that I think worthy of posting on the Father Geek. I’m not stuck up, it’s just that there is so much goodness out there, I need a filter separate the “truly awesome” from the “pretty darn cool”.…

Dakota Game Review

Players take on the role as leaders of a tribe of Native Americans or as a a leader for a group of Settlers. The land is abundant with resources, but not all resources are equal or even wanted. To the Native Americans, the land provides food and shelter, but to the Settlers the land provides building materials and riches. The two cultures clash and must compete for the same resources to survive.

Travel Battleship Game Review

In Travel Battleship, each player takes on the role of a Fleet Admiral (presumably) and commands a fleet of warships. This is the same game as the non-travel sized Battleship and plays exactly the same way. Because the game is travel size, you can take this game with you wherever you want to go.

Slap Jack Game Review

In this game, each player is attempting to be faster than the other players and collect all the cards. This is done by literally slapping their hand down on a stack of cards when a specific card is revealed. If done correctly, their pile of cards will grow while their opponent's piles quickly dwindle to nothing. This is a fast game that geeks of any age can play anywhere, anytime.

Scooby-Doo! Coolsville 500 Game Review

In this game, players must do their best to take the lead and stay ahead of the competition using basic card hand management and out thinking the other players. There is surprising depth to this simple game that makes it enjoyable for older geeks, too.

Battletech Blues

I purchased the Battletech 25th Anniversary Introduction Box Set game through Amazon as soon as it was available. I have many a fond memory playing this game as a kid and wanted to relive the experience with my little geeks.…

Ants in the Pants Game Review

Ants in the Pants requires the players to quickly (and accurately) flip little plastic ants into a pair of very big blue trousers. Takes seconds to teach and everyone plays at the same time. Very little downtime and quick set up/clean up makes this a game you can get out, play a bunch, and then move on to the next activity, quickly.

Mastermind Game Review

Mastermind is a game that requires a player to use logic and deductive reasoning skills to break the secret code created by their opponent. This is a simple 2-player deduction game that is not terribly demanding time wise and allows for a good deal of social interaction while playing. Expect a good challenge and rewarding fun.

Animal Mastermind Towers Game Review

Animal Mastermind Towers is a child-friendly version of the classic logical deduction game, Mastermind, but with much easier rules and game play that allows for two people to play simultaneously as the puzzle creator and the puzzle solver.
