Once he did, however, he was hooked. He now plays board games with anyone and everyone he can, but enjoys playing with his children the most. Video games continue to be of real interest, but not as much as dice and little miniatures. It has been said that the shortest distance between any two points is a straight line. This is an incorrect statement in a non-Euclidean universe and in the game Pathagon. The shortest distance is exactly what each player is attempting, but with limited game board space, players must quickly find alternative routes and make constant adjustments. This is a game that depends on a player to act and react at the same time. This individual wanders the lands in search of great stories about great people doing great deeds. He collects them, memorizes them, and then makes the journey to the dragon’s lair. There, he tells the tales he has learned to the great and powerful Khrag, a dragon of legend who is to be feared. If Khrag is pleased by the tales, the Kingdom is saved for a time. And just like that, the Heroes were gone. When the smoke cleared, all that remained was a pile of ash, a helmet or two, and the toothy grin of the dragon. The old adventurer sitting at the inn table looks tired, worn, and beaten. He tries to smile, fails, and instead just looks at his mug of warm ale. He says there’s a treasure to be found that he will pay you to find. He’d get it himself, but he’s in no shape to do so and not as young as he once was. He’ll pay you up front and you are welcome to keep all the treasure you find along the way. When you ask him what the catch is, he mumbles something about a crumbling tomb, monsters, and a rampaging ghost. You shrug. A jobs a job and you could use the gold. Quietly, you move through the treeline, looking for any signs of movement on the horizon. Pausing for a moment, you carefully examine a set of tracks. They look to be fresh, big, and heavy. There’s a buck nearby. As your heart rate increases, you do what you can to settle your nerves. If the majestic animal is still close, you’ll need to position yourself and wait. Or should you press on and keep looking, in hopes of sneaking up on the deer? Make a choice and risk it all or play it safe. It once was the greatest city known to man. It was said that the walls of Karez were made of gold and all those who dwelled within them were blessed with prosperity and health. But those are just stories and the city is now nothing more than ruins. By royal decree, the leaders of the greatest Guilds have been summoned and given one command: rebuild Karez.
