Outstanding Parents Guide to Tabletop Miniature Wargaming

There is more to our geek hobby than board games. Oh, so very, very much more. There are card games, dice games, live action games, role playing games, and the list goes on and on. One of the most visually stunning games of our collective hobby is also one of the most expensive and, some would argue, the most intimidating. I speak of the fantastic and always popular tabletop miniature wargaming. Continue reading

At first, it looks to be a simple exercise in tedious hexagon placement again and again until a simple shape is created. A ho-hum affair with little to provide in the way of entertainment or challenge. A hexagon here, a hexagon there, and you are suddenly very aware that you are close to loosing! How did this happen? Without even a hint of change, the game turns into a battle of wits as you attempt to out maneuver and out play your opponent in an ever shifting game where you are ahead one moment and then greatly behind the next! Dance Until You Can Dance No More!

I spend a ridiculously amount of time on the computer. I can’t help it; it’s my job. Whenever I find something that I really enjoy, and is little geek friendly, I make it a point to show it to my children so they can enjoy it, too. In the end, the cheers and laughter of my children outweight the eye rolling of my wife. Sorry, babe… Continue reading

Geek Life On a Budget

The hobby of board games, card games, dice games, and the mixing of all three is not a cheap one. In fact, you can expect to pay at least $20 for a game and from there the price skyrockets. It is not unheard of for games to be as expensive as over $100. That might seem like a great deal of money (and in all honesty, it really is), but for those who are passionate about the hobby, the money is well spent. Continue reading

Paradisio Game Review

Vibrant blue waters, pristine beaches, and a lush tropical paradise are yours to explore and to build. Create a vast island or smaller archipelagos surrounded by bluer than blue waters. Paradise is only a tile or two away, but be careful to not get lost in the beauty. Each turn of the beach, each curve of the shoreline, and every cove needs to be connected. Fail to build your island paradise correctly and your utopia will quickly become a dystopia! Continue reading
