About Cyrus

Editor in Chief, Owner/Operator, Board Game Fanatic, Father of Three, and Nice Guy, Cyrus has always enjoyed board, card, miniature, role playing, and video games, but didn't get back into the hobby seriously until early 2000. Once he did, however, he was hooked. He now plays board games with anyone and everyone he can, but enjoys playing with his children the most. Video games continue to be of real interest, but not as much as dice and little miniatures. As he carefully navigates the ins and outs of parenting, he does his very best to bestow what wisdom he has and help nurture his children's young minds. It is his hope and ambition to raise three strong, honorable men who will one day go on to do great things and buy their Mom and Dad a lobster dinner. Cyrus goes by the handle fathergeek on Board Game Geek. You can also check him out on CyrusKirby.com. Yes, he has a URL that is his name. His ego knows no bounds, apparently....

Explorasaurus ABCs Book Review

Actor Matt Smith (most notably recognized for his role as the 11th Doctor Who) said, “As a kid, I knew all of the dinosaurs. It’s one of those tragedies that I’ve forgotten what dinosaurs are cool.” I never forgot. It’s the Triceratops. That creature was a tank on four legs with horns ready to ruin a Tyrannosaurus Rex’s day. As adults, we still remember our love of dinosaurs and now we get to share our fascination with our children, whether they want to or not. Continue reading

Chinese Taoist cosmology is structured around five elements that form the basic building blocks of everything around us. The Demise of Dr. Frankenstein Game Review

People just don’t understand the level of dedication it takes to be a mad scientist. You’re treated as an outsider, never invited to lecture, and are forced to hire second-rate lab assistants. The pay is abysmal, as well. What makes it worth while is the chance to practice some really interesting science. Of course, the angry villagers who are always mobbing you with torches are a nuisance, but one cannot have it all. Continue reading

Monster Chef Game Review

The Japanese television show, Iron Chef, fused together the art of culinary cuisine and flamboyant theatrics. The end result was a competition that mixed food and creativity. The winner was the chef who could cook the fastest and the best. The same applies in this game. To be the best monster chef, you need to be handy in and out of the kitchen. Continue reading

Candy Grab Game Review

I remember jealously guarding my Halloween candy when I was a child. I would stash little caches of sugary goodness behind the couch, in my closet, and underneath my bed. I’m sure my mom thought I was crazy, but candy can be more precious than gold to a child. In this game, candy is the only thing you’ll be after, too. Continue reading
