Fidelitas Game Review

American scientist and inventor, Edwin Land, said “The most important thing about power is to make sure you don’t have to use it.” In this game, the player will be manipulating powerful guilds and its members, while staying in the shadows. The goal is to control the City, but there are others who want the same thing. Continue reading

Zoo Webs Game Review (prepublished version)

Vusamazulu Credo Mutwa said, “Nature is everything and you are a part of nature.” Some believe we are all connected, which is an interesting notion. Some believe we are all individual islands of solitude, which is just depressing. I’m personally in the middle, believing every living thing shares a common bond, but are independent of the biomass. In this game, you’ll connect animals, insects, fish, and birds in a “web of life”, matching common characteristics to very different creatures. Continue reading

Castle Assault Game Review (prepublished version)

Essayist George Santayana said, ” Only the dead have seen the end of war.” In the real world, yes. War is horrific. In a fantasy world and on your gaming table, this is not the case. War in games gives players an opportunity to flex their tactical muscle and strengthen their strategic mind. Wargames do not celebrate war, but look to analyze, understand, and recognize what war is truly about. In this game, you will be confronted with a single task and a tenacious adversary. Victory will go to the player who knows that sacrifice is necessary to win. Continue reading

Hoplomachus: Rise of Rome Game Review

The crowds cheer and chant the for the men who have come to fight and die in the arena. The names of the fallen and those gladiators still fighting are shouted from windows, doorways, and streets with more love than the name of the Emperor. Which, as you can imagine, has the Emperor worried. Concerned that his own reputation is on the line (not to mention his life), the Emperor decrees that Rome and Pompeii will now enter the arena to show the Empire that the greatest warriors are those who are loyal to the Emperor and the Emperor alone. Continue reading

The Battle of Red Cliffs Game Review

The Battle of Red Cliffs is believed to be the largest naval battle in history, according to some academics and historians. A bold statement when we consider that the battle took place in 208 A.D., the exact location of the battle remains hotly debated, and the actual number of combatants and lives lost is unknown. Regardless, the impact the battle had on China then and even today is still visible. From cultural events to highly romanticized fictitious retellings of the “historical account” of the battle, Red Cliffs remains a significant event. This game has nothing to do with that battle. Continue reading

The crowds were becoming wrestles. No longer were they satisfied with the Gladiators who fought and died bravely, spilling their blood upon the sand. The crowds wanted more and the owners of the arena obliged. From the far reaches of the Empire, new warriors have arrived, bringing with them exotic weapons of death, fantastic animal combatants, and new heroes to cheer for. Once again, the crowd was content. Hand-Off Game Review

When it comes to favorite seasonal sports, football is often at the top of many people’s lists. It’s a game where stats and names are thrown back and forth at social gatherings like so many pigskins flying through the air. It’s an event that brings friends, family, and communities together. For some, it’s not a sport at all; it’s a religion. Football is shown on television screens across America, and for those who enjoy a good dice, card, or board game, football can be played at the kitchen table, too. Continue reading

Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! Game Review

In the fantasy world, goblins tend to embody all that is gross, nasty, and foul. Fairies, on the other hand, can induce a diabetic coma simply by flying by you. These two extreme opposites go head-to-head in this clever card game that took everyone by surprise. Continue reading
