About Cyrus

Editor in Chief, Owner/Operator, Board Game Fanatic, Father of Three, and Nice Guy, Cyrus has always enjoyed board, card, miniature, role playing, and video games, but didn't get back into the hobby seriously until early 2000. Once he did, however, he was hooked. He now plays board games with anyone and everyone he can, but enjoys playing with his children the most. Video games continue to be of real interest, but not as much as dice and little miniatures. As he carefully navigates the ins and outs of parenting, he does his very best to bestow what wisdom he has and help nurture his children's young minds. It is his hope and ambition to raise three strong, honorable men who will one day go on to do great things and buy their Mom and Dad a lobster dinner. Cyrus goes by the handle fathergeek on Board Game Geek. You can also check him out on CyrusKirby.com. Yes, he has a URL that is his name. His ego knows no bounds, apparently....

Rig Game Review

The city was a technological marvel and a jewel in the crown of its creators. The city flew above the clouds like a bird thanks to the steam-powered engines that kept it afloat. Despite countless fail-safes, the engines stopped and the flying city started to fall to the ground. The occupants scrambled to the escape crafts and evacuated before it’s destruction. All but two individuals. With nothing but a salvage pile of junk and ingenuity, you must quickly build your escape rig before the city crashes! Continue reading

Ninja the Mission Force: Better Than Real Life

The Father Geek inbox gets a lot of mail nowadays. Subject matter ranges from review requests, questions from our readers, and so much SPAM we could put Hormel Foods out of business. I look through it all to make sure I don’t miss any opportunities and kindly responding to those who took the time to write to me. Today, the inbox was sent an invitation to take a look at a project that was described as “a bunch of twenty-somethings, mostly dudes, getting together to shoot some online videos.” Most of the time, I would stop right there, but then they said “Ninja”. Intrigued, I continued… Continue reading

Tired of being passed all the time or outdistanced, a few racers have become more aggressive in their driving. Some thought it was dangerous and unsportsmanlike. Victory is given to the driver who not only drove the track better than their opponents, but avoided its dangers, too. Start your engines, tighten those safety belts, and check your helmets! It’s going to be a bumpy ride! Continue reading

If I’m Going Down… Game Review

The food ran out about a week ago. The water, just the other day. That’s it. Game over, man. A sarcastic smile crosses your face as you consider how long and hard you fought the undead only to come down to this: a starved, terribly thirsty, “survivor” who is about to be just another victim. Dang, that’s not the way you wanted it to end. Sad, really. Whatever. That’s loser talk. Fine. If that’s the way it’s going to be, so be it. You’ve got a handful of bullets left and enough spit and vinegar to keep fighting. If you’re going down, you are going to take as many of them with you as possible! Time for the finale! Continue reading

Dungeon Crawler Minis: Towns Folk and Omens Review

Something wicked this way comes and that’s always bad news for townspeople! Does the raven circling over the road speak of evil things to come? Farmageddon Game Review

Being a farmer is not an easy life. You are forever at the mercy of nature and must risk it all in hopes of having a yield big enough to sell within a fickle market to make a profit. Farming is not for the thin-skinned or weak of heart, as land disappears, competitors are always looking for a weak spot, and there is little you can do to protect yourself other than mentally prepare for the worst. For those who are strong and lucky enough, the rewards are worth the struggle. You must be smart, savvy, quick, and able to take a punch. If you are, welcome to Farmageddon, the war in the farm fields. If not, try to get a job in the retail market. I hear they are hiring. Continue reading
