Dino Dude Ranch Game Review

Cowboys and cowgirls are tough ranchers who work the land, protect the animals, and risking their livelihood every day under the sun. They are truly brave and strong people. Even stronger are those who capture dinosaurs and raise them on their ranch. You are such a person, a dino rancher, who has a mind to capture a few prehistoric animals. Good luck and be safe! JurassAttack! Game Review

American paleontologist, Jack Horner, said “Children have a great urge to learn about dinosaurs.” Speaking from personal experience, as a one-time child and father of 3 little boys, dinosaurs are the coolest. Even as an adult, I still like learning about them and visiting museums to see the remains of the colossal monsters. In this game, you get to see which dinosaur really is the “biggest and the baddest”. Continue reading

Evolution: Climate Game Review (prepublished version)

The ability to adapt is what helps a species survive. A dwindling food supply, changes in the environment, and a shift in the climate are all harbingers of extinction except for those few who can acclimate to the changes. If the sun is too hot, take to hunting at night. If the air is cold, grow fur. If the hunters are big, become bigger. Life can be tough, but survival is even tougher. Continue reading

Evolution: Flight Game Expansion Review

Mankind has observed birds since they first looked in the sky. From that moment, the hearts of man have been filled with rapture and longing, for birds encapsulate a kind of freedom that can never be ours. But the sky and those things that fly in it are not immune to the same problems as earthbound creatures. Claws and teeth are equal to talons and beak. Hunting grounds exist both underfoot and above our heads. Continue reading

Evolution (Second Edition) Game Review

Carl Sagan said, “Extinction is the rule. Survival is the exception.” Meaning all forms of life are destined to blink into existence and then just as quickly blink into oblivion. Rather dire thinking, really, but not necessarily incorrect. Survival is the fight against extinction, the daily battle to continue and thrive. In this game, you will help new species of animals grow and become strong by taking from the weak. But balance is all important, for without balance, even the strong will fall. Continue reading

Hoyuk Game Review

The peaceful valley where 5 tribes have sheltered for generations, harvested crops, bred animals, and raised children has a problem. It’s over populated. Land is scarce, but not ambition. Each clan pushes to occupy more and more land to further their own goals, which causes other clans to have less to work with. The pursuit of peaceful coexistence has been replaced by each clans’ ambition for personal power. You must now lead your clan to victory or the valley may no longer be your home! Continue reading

Smash Up Game Review

The premise of Smash Up is pretty simple. Take two of the eight Faction decks (that represent iconic heroes of geek culture) and shuffle them together to create a 40 card deck. Use Minions and Actions from that deck to attack and destroy the Bases before your opponent’s do. The faster you destroy a Base, the more Victory Points you earn. The first player to accumulate 15 Victory Points wins the game. Quick. Easy. Fun. Approved! Continue reading
